There's so much
to say about a list like this, that the best thing to do is just shut up
and let the titles do the talking. However, introduction never hurt no one
and I'm dying to mention that these are nothing but MY hundred best films,
MY favorites. Heavy on eighties, steady on nineties, filling up with
noughties, even statistically it makes sense. But all choices are made by
heart and highly personal interests: many women, cheesy romance, lots of
troubled youngsters and soothing childhood sentiment, some search for the
meaning of life and other pretentious masturbation. Physically explicit
films in sweet harmony with mental stimulation. Exciting,
entertaining and calming.
Remarkable:
- No director has more than two titles on the list, six directors
serve double duties.
- Charlie Sheen has three films in the top 64 and he's not among my
favorite actors.
- Wall Street
finally surpasses Platoon
as best Stone movie. I'm officially tired of war.
- Several horror classics were dropped, replaced by a couple of new
ones.
- Action as a genre is represented only by
Die Hard,
but don't forget Hell's
Angels.
- Three and two half Dutch films is just the correct amount and it
came very natural.
- Never quite seem to make it to the top: Eastern Europe, Spain,
Latin America.
- Only three documentaries and two animated movies, let alone black
people.
- My heart has never been politically correct.
- Say Anything...
would be number one if
Untamed Heart
hadn't existed.

New entries:
- Gross Anatomy
at 98: marks a new wave
of recently discovered eighties hidden gems.
- Creator
at 77: you'd never expect it to be so incredibly complete. Bring
respect and tissues.
- Wendy and Lucy
still needs to ripen a little.
Forbidden Fruit
is already in at 69.
- The Good Life
at 8: best film of the past decade, a potential future number one.
